I thought that I would give some insight as to how I write for Bleach Happy To Serve You. Many people have told me how much they enjoy this comic and I am often fairly surprised as I have no previous writing background at all, My highest education is a GED, and this is my first actual story with a consistent plot.

My writing style is in script form. Written as if the characters were reading lines for a show. The setting is usually placed first in brackets or parenthesis, but I usually don't go into too much detail with them as I don't want to restrict Gairon's illustrations. Most if not all of the writing is done with just the basic idea of what character will interact. Gairon will often throw out some ideas that I will write around. An example of my style would be something like.

(Rukia and Matsumoto are in boobies standing near Urahara's office)

Rukia - You can't ask for a break now.

Matsumoto - Easy for you to say! Guys aren't grabbing at you all day. Not like there is anything to grab anyway. (rubs her sore butt)

Rukia - Well maybe you wouldn't get grabbed if you weren't so easy D:<!

And so on. As you can see Gairon gets left with a good bit of artistic freedom. While I do understand that some people like to go into great detail about what the characters are feeling and the scenery. However this is a manga style comic where script style writing seems to work the best. At least for us anyway since most of the visuals are being actually seen rather than a text based fanfic where you must imagine everything.

The first 3 chapters that I wrote came out fairly quick. I spent a max of a half hour on each chapter. Chapter 4 however took me well over an hour and a half to write. This brings me into our next important point of Understanding the Characters. Character Development for me is one of the big catches. It's something that I love to watch in anime is characters personalities developing over the course of a series. Watching lots of different shows can allow you to understand a character type well and what jokes work with them. The reason why I was able to write the first 3 chapters within a half hour each is because I understood how the characters would react in the given situations. However in chapter 4 we have many characters that I wanted to add, but they had little to no real character development in the series. This is the opposite of Tatsuki who had lots of character set up, but Kubo didn't do much of anything with. Now when I am writing for a character like Ryo Kunieda all I know from the series is that she always reads a book and can run fast. This slows down the fast process that I enjoy working with of characters that I am familiar with, but by understanding character types I can make the character seem to do things within a reasonable manner. As for those who don't know or are wondering about anime character types TV Tropes is a great resource to guide you. I just cant stress enough on how establishing good character development is one of the best ways to get people to enjoy the story. While it may sound generic to use some character that way it really isn't as long as you make the characters your own while still fallowing the character mold you have already based. Also don't be afraid to mix the character types up some Unohana and Kenpachi are a great example of taking the characters, but adding the anime parents of a sex starved wife and stern scary pussy whipped husband. Not to mention changing some characters like Nel and Yachiru into different ages. For Yachiru she acts the same as she did when she was small, but the comedy comes in that everyone else is seeing this overly sexy girl doing things that Yachiru herself doesn't see as sexy.

This brings me into the next part which is Comedy. It's best not to over think any one joke. Usually the best jokes can be the most simple. The Nemu stomach oven joke took over four pages which while it was still funny was a very long set up for people who were reading the pages as they came out. However the jokes with the one page setup and delivery usually get the most favorable comments. The Omake pages are big examples of that along with reveals like Teen Yachiru and Nel. I personally like to use The Three Stooges style of comedy. What I mean by that is by having 3 characters be the main focus for the story or joke. One character will be the Moe of the group. *not that kind of moe* And their job is to be the serious one to the other two characters hijinks while usually being the butt of the joke. Using three is a good rule of thumb as it's about the right amount of people that can have a conversation and still fit on the page. Mixing character types properly is vary important. Having too many of the same character leaves no room for an argument unless there is a moe in the group. The moe isn't the only way to go about the three person group. Another fun way is to have practically a punching bag character. This characters personality is usually so weak that they will go along with bad ideas that usually end in disaster. Peace Keeper characters like Isane and Momo are perfect for that type. As for jokes in general go for what you think is funny while still making it something believable of the character. Yet doing something completely out of character is fine if you are going for a shock laugh. While I a writing a joke line by line I will often read it like the character to make sure it sounds right. Many of the characters have their own personality quirks that sometimes have to be taken into account. Yachiru often gives nicknames and Nel replaces the word I with Nel when addressing herself. Those are more minor jokes in themselves, but they can make some jokes even funnier.

Shipping is one of the more personal matters in fanfics. Many people read them just for the shipping. Personally I support most character pairings, and while many people think it's risky as ships are syrsbisness. I think they add a lot of comedy and fanservice which fanservice is a draw all it's own. I like to go for the more realistic ships. The "ichigo harem" has had all the girls show at least some interest in Ichigo at one point in the series. And it's only funny to think of how they would all react at this point while ichigo travels around being all pimp. While other ships like UnohanaXKenpachi are more just something that I am a fan of and have voiced many times as to why it is a great pairing. Romantic comedies have been the main source of anime in the past decade. So finding character and plot references isn't all that hard at all. People will always ship who they want and be haters for anyone who thinks other wise. As a wise person once said on the internet Everyone Else's Opinion < My Opinion.

Overall we started this as something fun to do in our spare time. We never really thought it would have gained the amount of popularity it has in the short amount of time since we have started it. I hope that this gives some insight as to how I waste my time lol. I have just been amazed by how many people have felt inspired to write and even write again after they have stopped thanks to reading this manga. Maybe even this journal can help some people with their writing or ideas. Well till next time Stay Gold     Bang!

So is that snippet of dialogue you mentioned at the beginning going to be in ch 6? Haha

Wow a lot of this stuff I actually agree with and have been doing myself in my own fanfiction writing. Jeez I wish I had met you sooner we think the same thing while writing, though I'm a much better drama writer than comedy.
I bow to your comedy abilities

You do have everyone well in character with the series I've noticed. :iconclapplz: well done, I say, well done.

Is the doujin recommended on Bleach's recs page on tvtropes because if it's not it needs to be.

Naw that first part was just something I made up on the spot lol. I wrote chapter 6 aka Happy Holloween last night.

Thanks a lot it is nice to meet you as well ^_^! I will be having some action in the next chapter, but comedy and fanservice is still our main goal.

I don't think it is at least I have never added one.

Oh lol this'll be good haha.
It sounds like something you should put on the back burner for a future chapter

I figured that was the case :lmao:
Just like when I write drama I never try to let the comedy go to the wayside.

Then I will because this is too awesome NOT to be mentioned.

Hmm. Really interesting... Thank you very much for that 3 characters rule! It's good idea...
As for ships? Well. I also multiship lots of characters. Even if I like Unohana better with Ukitake I still enjoy reading her with Kenpachi! XDD So it all depends on person I guess. But, what I wanted to say... Moar Unohana pleease~ XD
